    Abstract [en]

Background: The recently revised curriculum for preschool (2019) clarified new guidelines in preschoolactivities regarding the use of digital technology and states that the preschool's mission is that the activities' work with digital tools remains continuous and a complement to regular teaching methods. Digital tools are becoming an increasingly common aid in preschool and preschool has an important role when it comes to preparing children for modern society. Therefore, there was a great interest ininvestigating how educators view digital tools as aids and how educators work with the digital tools as aids in preschool.

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate how digital tools are used in preschool, how educators reason about working with digital tools and how they can use digital tools as a complement to teaching at school.

Method: The method used is a qualitative and quantitative research approach using a web-based survey with closed and open-ended questions.

Results: The results of the study showed that educators felt that they had too little experience and knowledge of working with digital tools and lacked the competence for how to use the various digital tools in the best way. Based on the survey, we could clearly see that educators still use different digital tools every day through varied activities.
