Enticing consumers to enter fashion stores: a sensory marketing perspective2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

During the past years, there has been a re-emergence of sensory marketing in the paradigm of marketing. However, there is a lack of empirical studies done on the subject. Furthermore, the previous literature has focused on whether senses affects, rather than how they affect. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is to study how sensory stimuli affects the consumers’ choice of entering physical fashion stores.

This thesis is based on sensory marketing, consumer behaviour, and retail marketing theory. The theoretical framework in this thesis consists of an adapted sensory-stimuli-response model with the five main senses of sensory marketing as stimuli, emotional response of arousal and pleasure as organism, and entering or not entering as response. A qualitative research strategy was used to study the phenomenon.

The empirical findings and the analysis showed that touch, sight, and sound were effective in enticing the consumer to enter by affecting their arousal. Furthermore, scent was on the opposite side as it was only affective in creating disinterest when bad. Lastly, taste displayed potential which warrants further research.

This thesis might be of value for companies looking to implement sensory marketing as part of their marketing plan.

Tandtrådens effekt på plack och gingivit2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Parturient needs during labor: Egyptian women’s perspective toward childbirth experience, a step toward an excellence in clinical practice2011In: Journal of Basic and Applied Scientific Research, ISSN 2090-4304, Vol. 1, no 12, 2935-2943 p.Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    Background:

Every woman giving birth has expectations. Identifying women’s expectations, wishes, needs and fears enable the health care provider(s) to work toward a common goal of safe and positive childbirth experience.

    Aim:

The aim was to determine women’s preferences and needs during labor.

    Design:

    Analytic- cross sectional study.

    Setting:

El Kasr- Aini, - Cairo- University Maternity Hospitals.

    Sample:

A random sample of 400 women were recruited in the present study with the following criteria; age ranged between 20-30 years old, can read and write, primigravida, nulliparous woman with singleton low risk pregnancies, in the third trimester, up to 37 weeks of gestational age, no previous abortion and free from any medical complains.

    Procedure:

Data collection took place in the antenatal clinic, each interview administrated questionnaire took a time between 10-15 minutes. Mothers completed the questionnaire in the antenatal clinics during their waiting for medical examination.

    Results:

Twenty two need requirements emerged from the women's perspective. The highest ranked needs for parturient women during labor are; maintaining privacy through all procedures of 86.5%, accessibility of nurses demonstrate empathy of 67.5%, availability to ventilate and expressing fear and anxiety of 57.5%, quick response to request of 67.5%, frequent monitoring of 52.8%, accessibility of caring medical staff of 47.2% and short delivery of 52.8%.

    Conclusion:

Despite good general coverage of labor care among women, there were clear variations in the type of management given to them or needed by them. This study confirms that different factors predict the multidimensionality of childbirth satisfaction.

A structured evidence-based approach to decrease cardiovascular complications among pregnant women with reumatic disease: a pilot randomized controlled trial2010In: Journal of Medicine and Biomedical Science, ISSN 2078-0273, no 1, 8-15 p.Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Background: Recent reports from the developing world have documented rheumatic fever (RE) incidence rates as high as 206/100 000 and Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) prevalence rates as high as 18.6/1000. The high frequency of RHD in the developing world necessitates aggressive prevention and control measures. Aim: The aim of the study was to examine the effect of intensive antenatal follow up program on decreasing cardiovascular complications among rheumatic pregnant woman. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Setting: This study was conducted at El Kasr-EL Aini, maternity hospital- Cairo- University Hospitals. Sample: A total of 100 rheumatic pregnant women that attended the antenatal clinic at El Kasr-EL Aini, maternity hospital who could read and write, had functional class I and II cardiac disease, primigravida, nullipara with single fetus were recruited to this study and assigned randomly into two groups. Procedure: Women who met the inclusion criteria were interviewed and baseline assessment was done. The intervention was an intensive antenatal follow up program for decreasing cardiovascular complications among rheumatic pregnant woman. Patients in the study group (SG) were offered an intervention at three levels, basic, intermediate and comprehensive. Evaluation of the program was carried out in term of assessment of maternal and neonatal outcome. Results: There were several significant differences between the study group (SG) and control group (CG). In the SG, antepartum complications was less common, gestational age at birth was higher, postnatal hospital stay shorter, birth weight higher, more had vaginal deliveries with episiotomy, fewer had caesarean section, forceps deliveries and termination of pregnancy, and cardiac class was better at follow up as compared to the CG. Conclusion: The difficult issues in pregnancy complications by cardiac disease are best managed through a team approach. Establishing a pre-pregnancy plan will foster a better therapeutic relationship between all parties and allow for better understanding of the patient’s beliefs regarding pregnancy, her disease and attitude towards medications.

Metoder för tobaksavvänjning2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Patients with tobacco habits visit the dental care regularly, therefore it is well placed to carry out tobacco cessation for those who smoke or use snuff. The purpose of this study was to highlight methods available for tobacco cessation and results of these methods. The authors searched in the database PubMed and was limited to articles published during the last ten years and performed in the dental care. The framework was limited to eight studies which were performed in the dental care. The results showed that there are several different combination methods for tobacco cessation. In three articles, the 5A method was used in combination with nicotine replacement therapy. In other articles five different combination methods with different follow-up times were used. In one of those with

combined approach two methods are described. In addition a method was used for snuff cessation. The result showed differences in frequency of success to tobacco stop. The best result was shown after twelve months tobacco cessation and a follow up in two of the combination methods and the method for snuff cessation (36%, 25% and 30%). The lowest success rate was 7% after twelve months follow up with one of the 5A methods. The conclusion of the study is that there are few published studies regarding tobacco cessation in the dental care, which are based on evaluation of methods performed among patients. Follow up, counselling and support have essential effects on the result.

En litteraturstudie om sjuksköterskans omvårdnad av patienter med intravenöst drogmissbruk2009Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Aim:Was to highlight factors influencing the care of patients with an intravenous drug abuse, from the perspective of Suzie Kims nursing theories. Background: Nurses often have lack of knowledge about drug abuse and how to handle the care of these patients. This can lead to fear among the staff when in care of them, which can create an encounter with less good quality. A prejudge mental attitude among the staff is sometime evident. Method: A literature overview, based on eight scientific rapports/articles made during 2003-2009. These were found by searching databases such as PubMed, PsyhInfo, ELIN@lund and Cinahl. A deductive analysis method was used using Kim (2000) nursing theories; the domain of the client, client – nurse domain and the practice domain of nursing. Result: Injection drug users (IDU) often have an exposed health issue, dominated by a risky behavior. These patients are often facing difficulties in reaching healthcare, and that the care is badly suites for their specific needs. The client – nurse relation is found to be the most effective when provided in specialized facilities. The practice of nursing fulfills an important prevention role in the care and substation of IDU´s health. Conclusion: Education and information about drug abuse seems to provide better and less prejudice attitudes among the staff. A Swedish empiric study about IDU´s experience of health care and its environment would provide an improved understanding for this patient group.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Intersectorial cooperation is commonly regarded as a desirable development in order to achieve increased efficiency and quality, and to reduce redundancies. In this report the experiences are presented from a project where nurses, midwives, preschool teacher and social worker integrated their activities around families and children. The results show that although all involved personnel were confident that the integration was favorable, they all experienced tensions, due to flaws in administrative and managerial procedures, perverse economic incentives, differences in professional background and organizational culture and personal preferences. This study indicates that integrative policies need to be followed by determined implementation.

Immigrants caught in the crossfire of the projectification of the welfare sector: short time solutions of long term problems2010In: Diversity in Health and Care, ISSN 1759-1422, E-ISSN 1743-4904, Vol. 7, no 3, 201-209 p.Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In this article we use two immigrant projects, operating in a Swedish context, as a basis for discussing and analysing the potential of joint projects as a tool for change in human welfare service organisations that target the general public. The extensive use of projects in the development of a slimmed-down public sector can be seen as originating from the contradictory promises of projects regarding flexibility and rationality in the new public management context. Projects are also used as a way to obtain more resources for specific long-term needs, but they are seldom implemented as intended in the regular 'mainstream' organisation. Therefore the long-term development of social services and healthcare for immigrants remains inadequate. It appears that politicians, managers and civil servants prefer to focus on the positive aspect of projects to legitimate the organisations and to bring about change by targeting and steering activities. However, they tend to overlook the negative consequences of using projects, and there is a risk that a backlash will undermine the legitimacy of organisations. Citizens and participants in general, and immigrants in particular, experience frustration and distrust as a result of the short-term nature of project-based action. The problems that the projects were expected to address may remain, or even increase.

    Abstract [en]

In this article we use two immigrant projects to identify similarities and consequences in order to discuss and analyse outwarding collaborative projects in human service organizations as a tool for change. The heavy use of projects in a slimmed public sector originates from projects’ contradictory promises of flexibility and effectiveness in the New Public Management context. Usually projects are used as a way to get more resources to long-term needs but are seldom implemented as planned in the regular organisation. Seemingly politicians, management and civil servants preferred are focusing on the positive side of projects as means to legitimate the organizations and to bring change by targeting and steering activities. However, they tend to overlook the negative consequences from projects. Citizens and participants experience frustration and distrust. The long-term development in organizations is scarce. Projects are seldom implemented meanwhile as the problems the projects were expected to target still are remaining or even are increasing.

Building bridges or negotiating tensions?: experiences from a project aimed at enabling migrant access to health and social care in Sweden2009In: Diversity in Health and Care, ISSN 1759-1422, E-ISSN 1743-4904, Vol. 6, no 2, 85-95 p.Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

A current challenge for many European countries is to enable forced migrants to access health and social care that meets their needs. One solution is to use paraprofessionals - that is, trained individuals who are not professionals - to act as bridge-builders between minority communities and the health and social care sectors. This paper explores the development of a quality improvement project in Sweden. The project aimed to recruit and train forced migrants who had lived in Sweden for more than five years to act as bridge-builders. The aim was to use their unique experiences and knowledge in two ways - to work with service staff in developing new ways of working, and to become culturally competent paraprofessionals working with their own communities. This paper focuses on how an understanding of the role evolved as the participants reflected on their experiences and undertook an inquiry process culminating in the development of three possible models of what the task of a bridge-builder should be in developing culturally appropriate health and social services that are responsive to the needs of forced migrants. The conclusion reflects on what was learned and how the experiences from this project may be useful for others who are struggling with the same kind of problem in Sweden and in other countries.

Familjecentralen: mervärde för alla föräldrar genom samlokalisering?2011In: Socialmedicinsk Tidskrift, ISSN 0037-833X, Vol. 88, no 2, 100-109 p.Article in journal (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

A salutogenic perspective could be of practical relevance for the prevention of smoking amongst pregnant women2002In: Midwifery, ISSN 0266-6138, E-ISSN 1532-3099, Vol. 18, no 4, 323-331 p.Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

OBJECTIVE: to use empirical data to assess the theoretical relevance of using a salutogenic, instead of a pathogenic, perspective to prevent smoking during pregnancy. DESIGN: quantitative study, a questionnaire was completed during the first trimester of pregnancy and an interview was conducted after the baby was born. SETTING: a geographically defined area in the south-east of Sweden. PARTICIPANTS: all 395 women in the study area who were pregnant during the study period 1994-1995. FINDINGS: the women were categorised according to their smoking habits. A significant difference in the sense of coherence (SOC) score was shown between smoking and non-smoking women in indicators of bad health. Women who relapsed to smoking showed a lower level of SOC, particularly in the manageability component, than others. The SOC score was higher in the whole study group than in other comparable, non-pregnant populations. KEY CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: a salutogenic perspective could be used in antenatal care as a basis for encouraging pregnant women to stop smoking. This could enhance the SOC by making smoking more understandable for the woman, by discussing smoking as a way of coping, and by encouraging the woman's own capacity and motivation to stop smoking. Starting a dialogue about smoking from the woman's point of view could do this, with the midwife and the woman exploring together the woman's thoughts about the smoking problem.

Smoking patterns during pregnancy: differences in socio-economic and health-related varaiables2000In: European Journal of Public Health, ISSN 1101-1262, E-ISSN 1464-360X, Vol. 10, no 3, 208-213 p.Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Background: The objective of this study was to assess different smoking patterns during and after pregnancy and relate these patterns to socioeconomic conditions and different health issues such as symptoms, drug consumption and health care use. Methods: The study group included 337 pregnant women from a district in south Sweden. A questionnaire was filled in during the first part of pregnancy and an interview was conducted after the baby was born. The women were categorised according to their smoking habits. Results: The categories defined were continuers, relapsers, decreasers, quitters and non-smokers. Among relapsers three symptoms, difficulty in relaxing (OR 4.48), restlessness (OR 9.59) and dysphoria (OR 3.98), were more common than among non-smokers. All three musculoskeletal symptoms were most common among continuers. Among quitters the OR for backache was 2.05, for numbness In the arms and legs 2.76 and for tearfulness 2.92. Educational level was relatively high among quitters and few had a smoking partner. Among smokers (decreasers, relapsers and continuers) 24% used drugs regularly, compared to 5% among non-smokers. Conclusions: To prevent smoking during pregnancy awareness of the relations between different smoking categories and symptoms could make it easier for hearth personnel to individualise support. A possible starting point is to discuss how to cope with different symptoms occurring during smoking cessation. Women with predictors for continued smoking during pregnancy, such as low education, unemployment, a smoking partner and multiparous, should be focused on more intensively and preventive strategies suitable for their special needs should be developed.

Sense of coherence of reindeer herders and other Samis in comparison to other Swedish citizens2013In: International Journal of Circumpolar Health, ISSN 2242-3982, E-ISSN 2242-3982, Vol. 72, 20633- p.Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

BACKGROUND: Samis are indigenous people in north Europe. In the territory called Sápmi (Lapland), reindeer herding is the traditional base for the Sami economy. The relation between living conditions and positive health of the Swedish Samis has been sparsely studied. As health is closely linked to sense of coherence (SOC), an understanding of the background factors to SOC may contribute knowledge that might be useful in promoting living conditions and health.

METHODS: The study examines relations between the level of SOC and background factors from surveys in a Sami population (n=613) in comparison to a non-Sami population (n=525) in Sweden, and in comparison between 2 subsamples of Samis, that is, herders and non-herders.

RESULTS: There are more similarities than differences between the Sami and non-Sami populations. However, dividing the Sami population, reindeer herders had significantly lower SOC, and in specific the subcomponent manageability, that is, less ability to use available resources to meet different demands in life, compared to non-herders.

CONCLUSIONS: In addition to age and health, predictors of SOC are related to the life form of reindeer husbandry and the belonging to the herding community.

Open pre-schools at integrated health services: a program theory2013In: International Journal for Integrated Care, ISSN 1568-4156, Vol. 13, e014- p.Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Introduction: Family centres in Sweden are integrated services that reach all prospective parents and parents with children up to their sixth year, because of the co-location of the health service with the social service and the open pre-school. The personnel on the multi-professional site work together to meet the needs of the target group. The article explores a program theory focused on the open pre-schools at family centres.

Method: A multi-case design is used and the sample consists of open pre-schools at six family centres. The hypothesis is based on previous research and evaluation data. It guides the data collection which is collected and analysed stepwise. Both parents and personnel are interviewed individually and in groups at each centre.

Findings: The hypothesis was expanded to a program theory. The compliance of the professionals was the most significant element that explained why the open access service facilitated positive parenting. The professionals act in a compliant manner to meet the needs of the children and parents as well as in creating good conditions for social networking and learning amongst the parents.

Conclusion: The compliance of the professionals in this program theory of open pre-schools at family centres can be a standard in integrated and open access services, whereas the organisation form can vary. The best way of increasing the number of integrative services is to support and encourage professionals that prefer to work in a compliant manner.

Some lessons from Swedish midwives' experiences of approaching women smokers in antenatal care2005In: Midwifery, ISSN 0266-6138, E-ISSN 1532-3099, Vol. 21, no 4, 335-345 p.Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

OBJECTIVE: to describe the qualitatively different ways in which midwives make sense of how to approach women smokers. DESIGN, SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: a more person-centred national project 'Smoke-free pregnancy' has been in progress in Sweden since 1992. Using a phenomenographic approach, 24 midwives who have been regularly working in antenatal care were interviewed about addressing smoking during pregnancy. FINDINGS: four different story types of how the midwives made sense of their experiences in addressing smoking in pregnancy were identified: 'avoiding', 'informing', 'friend-making', 'co-operating'. KEY CONCLUSION: the midwives' story types about how they approached women who smoke illustrated the difficulties of changing from being an expert who gives information and advice to being an expert on how to enable a woman in finding out why she smoked and how to stop smoking. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: health education about smoking that is built on co-operation and dialogue was seen by the midwives as a productive way of working. The starting point should be the lay perspective of a woman, which means that her thoughts about smoking cessation are given the space to grow while she talks.

Making sense of the challenge of smoking cessation during pregnancy: a phenomenographic approach.2005In: Health Education Research, ISSN 0268-1153, E-ISSN 1465-3648, Vol. 20, no 3, 367-378 p.Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In general, most women are familiar with the need to stop smoking when they are pregnant. In spite of this, many women find it difficult to stop. Using a phenomenographic approach, this study explored Swedish pregnant and post-pregnant women's ways of making sense of smoking during pregnancy. A total of 17 women who either smoked throughout pregnancy or stopped smoking during pregnancy were interviewed. Five different story types of how they are making sense of smoking during pregnancy were identified: smoking can be justified; will stop later; my smoking might hurt the baby; smoking is just given up; smoking must be taken charge of. Based on the study it is argued that the approach used in health education in relation to smoking cessation in antenatal care needs to move from information transfer and advice-giving to the creation of a dialogue. The starting point should be the woman's knowledge, concerns, rationalizations and prejudices. A model is suggested in which a woman may move in a space on three axes depending on life encounters, dialogue and reflections on meaning. The goal in health education would be to encourage movement along three axes: 'increase of self-efficacy towards control', 'increase awareness by reflection on meaning of the smoking issue' and 'avoidance of defense of the smoking behavior'.

Bemötande vid långvarig ryggsmärta: patienters upplevelser av möten med vårdpersonal - en litteraturstudie2013Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

This is a qualitative study based on eight interviews, four of which have been probation inspectors and three have been external controllers, or controllers as they say, and one have been an email interview with the headquarters of the correctional treatment. The interviews have been made on probation service offices in southern Sweden.

The purpose of this study is to investigate how the professionals in Probation service see their work with intensive supervision with electronic monitoring. We are interested in their work from mainly three aspects, how they look at their control, how they see the intensive supervision with electronic monitoring as collective punishment and how they work with the client's family.

In our results it emerges through interviews that probation staff in general find it difficult to work with the Children Convention (CRC) and the law when it comes to intensive supervision with electronic monitoring. They mostly do not believe that intensive supervision with electronic monitoring is a collective punishment for the adults but when it comes to children it becomes a longer discussion with different arguments and thoughts.

Our results have found that in comparison to prison, most people seem to find that intensive supervision with electronic monitoring is a decent punishment. Most of the professionals are aware, and think it's important to recognize, that they are in a position of power in relation to the client.

In the analysis, we establish an outcome from the interviews into our theories and trying to find a connection between them.

Evaluation of the Dental Hygienist Beliefs Survey: test-retest assessment in a group of general dental patients2012In: International Journal of Dental Hygienie, ISSN 1601-5037, Vol. 10, no 1, 30-35 p.Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Objective:  To evaluate the Dental Hygienist Beliefs Survey (DHBS) and the test–retest reliability of DHBS in a group of general dental patients.

Material and methods:  The DHBS, which is a questionnaire constructed to assess patients’ specific attitudes towards dental hygienists (DHs), was distributed together with the Dental Anxiety Scale adapted to specifically assess fear of DH treatment (DHAS). It was hypothesized that DHBS would correlate with DHAS and gender. The questionnaires were consecutively distributed to 80 patients at their first visit and after a clinical examination performed by a DH student. Retest assessments of DHBS were conducted approximately two weeks later in conjunction with the next visit at the DH student and before treatment (scaling session). The final study sample included 77 adult general dental patients in treatment at an education clinic for DH students.

Results:  The results verified a statistically significant correlation between DHBS and DHAS. The DHBS sum of scores showed high internal consistency with Cronbach’s a coefficient of 0.88 and 0.91 at the first and second assessments, respectively, and the test–retest reliability of the DHBS was acceptable with intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.76. No statistically significant association was found between DHBS and gender.

Conclusion:  The results suggest that the DHBS is a reliable and stable scale to use to assess patients’ specific attitudes towards DHs. Moreover, DH beliefs are associated with fear of DH treatment.

    Abstract [en]

Organized sport involving many children and adolescents. However, there is a tendency among young people to stop participating in sport with increasing age. Many studies have been conducted to investigate the causes of dropout in the organized sport. In contrast, this study was based from a health promotion perspective. The aim of this study was to examine the different reasons why girls aged 14 to 20 continuing participate in organized sport. A qualitative approach was used and ten semi-structured interviews were conducted with girls from two football clubs in southern Sweden. The result of the study showed that the girls experiences could be grouped under six categories: Enjoyment, Health and Well-being, Social Environment, Socialization / habitus, Competence and Motivational climate. The conclusion of the study showed that the sports movement in Sweden can be seen as an arena that reaches out to a large number of children and adolescents. Sport was perceived to have great importance for the interviewed girls. It is therefore important that the knowledge and resources are available to develop the sport by the practitioners' needs.

    Abstract [en]

The aim with my study is to highlight, illuminate and examine the social and maternal health care motivational work of pregnant women with a risk or abuse of alcohol and / or drugs, and what actions can be considered for these women. In addition, the aim is to explore how social services and maternity care might interact in this type of case. The aim is to convey the subjective experience of each of the interviewees. For the purposes of this study, I have chosen to use the qualitative research method. I have interviewed social workers in individual and family care, and midwives. Study interview results show that pregnant misusers priority for both maternity care and social services. By the AUDIT, conducted by the maternal health care, shows that the woman has a risk and / or abuse woman offered a variety of activities that may be in the form of talks, drug testing and treatment. Cooperation is the key to success in this motivational work, and it's mainly collaboration between social services, maternal health and child health care. Cooperation seems to work fine, but could be improved with more time and more staff.

Anhörigvårdares behov av utbildning och information: Vid vård av en familjemedlem med stroke2009Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Nowadays customers have a sort of relationship with their bank. The relationship can be from savings, loans, stocks and more. Products and services between the different banks have become similar after deregulation in 1986. For that reason, it is significantly important for banks to offer competitive products and services to their customers. This has resulted to more banks have invested many of their resources in order to have more satisfied and loyal customers. Relationship is created in a bank when interrelated factors such as Communication, Commitment, Competence and Conflict handling are achieved. This leads to the purpose of this research, which is to explore if the psychographic factors have an impact on the advisers relationship with the customers.

The study has used hermeneutic research philosophy combined with an abductive and a qualitative approach. The method is used to create a deeper insight and understanding of the research area. This study has been analyzed through field studies in order to provide answers to the study´s problems and purposes. The bases of the interview questions were selected and gathered from different theories. The interviews were conducted at Sparbanken 1826 in Kristianstad, where bank customers, private advisors and staff officer were interviewed.

The study indicates if the psychographic- and relationship factors are used in a Swedish bank. The study demonstrates that all four relationship factors used by the bank, however, all the psychographic factors are not used, where there were only valuations executed on the bank

Revisorers välbefinnande i ett kommunikationssamhälle med fokus på digitaliseringens påverkan: en kvantitativ studie2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Quality of nursing care as perceived by cancer patients: a cross-sectional survey in four European countries2017In: Balkan Union of Oncology. Journal, ISSN 1107-0625, Vol. 22, no 3, 777-782 p.Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Purpose: To explore and compare cancer patients' perceptions on the quality of nursing care in four European countries. Methods: Data were collected in Cyprus, Finland, Greece and Sweden. The sample comprised 596 hospitalized cancer patients. The quality of nursing care was measured using the "Oncology Patients' Perceptions of the Quality of Nursing Care Scale" (OPPQNCS). Patient characteristics were also collected. Analysis of variance was used to examine the effects of country on the perceptions of the quality of nursing care. Results: Patients' age ranged from 18 to 86 years, and 58% were male. The comparison of cancer patients' perceptions regarding the quality of nursing care between the four countries showed a statistically significant difference in the total OPPQNCS scores (p <0.001) as well as in the subscales responsiveness (p <0.001), individualization (p<0.001), co ordination (p<0.001) and proficiency (p<0.001). The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the OPPQNCS ranged between 0.89 and 0.95. A multivariate analysis of variance for the OPPQNCS controlled by respondents' demographic characteristics revealed that only the patient's country was significantly related with the patients' perceptions of quality care. Conclusion: Quality of nursing care as perceived by cancer patients was high, but differed between the four countries. The impact of the clinical status of cancer patients on the quality of nursing care and managerial factors such as staffing/nursing care delivery models that influence the ability of nurses to offer high quality care should also be explored by more focused studies.

Riskbenägenhet och Generation Y: en kvantitativ studie om hur riskbenägenheten påverkas hos Generation Y ur ett demografiskt perspektiv.2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The youth of today belongs to a generation called Generation Y and are distinguished from previous generations by a number of characteristic features. However, it is not only these features that can be distinguished between Generation Y and previous generation, but also a different kind of risk behavior.

Experts agree that there are several factors that affect individuals' willingness to take risks and that these factors vary depending on the individual's age. This often results to, when this field is studied, that scientists aim on a specific age group or generation. Research regarding Generation Y has been conducted, however, there is limited research that specifically addresses Generation Y and risk propensity. Hence, the aim of this research is to examine how demographic factors influence the risk propensity of Generation Y.

This dissertation adopted a positivist research philosophy with an explanatory purpose. Theory of Planned Behavior is the theory that the hypotheses are based on. The empirical data was collected using a quantitative study, in the form of a survey limited to five institutions of higher education.

Anställdas upplevelse av förändrad organisationskultur vid en sammanslagning: En kvantitativ studie utifrån anställdas karaktäristiska drag2016Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

For several years, organizational change in the form of mergers has been an ongoing part of the operational strategy for most organizations. This is to achieve organizational diversity, growth and rationalization. What, however, has failed to take into account is that each organization possesses a specific organizational culture of common and shared views on the organization's values, norms, basic assumptions and perceptions of reality. In order to establish a new and successful unit requires a recreated organizational culture, where employees from different organizations are experiencing a new common and shared sense of organization set foundations.

What this study would like to contribute is a new angle regarding a change in organizational culture that looks to the employee experience based on the individual characteristic features; neuroticism, extroversion, openness, agreeableness and conscientiousness, which may have significant relevance for achieving a successful merger. This is on account of that an individual's behavior derives from personality features, which highlights the personality of individuals and how they feel, think and act in different situations. It is mainly in situations where the habits and routines changes as the individual characteristic features will be interesting to study to identify how an individual responds to this. A deductive approach will hence be applied with the intention of studying a change in organizational culture with a new angle, which in this case is based on individuals’ characteristics traits. With support from previous research theses have been built, which were tested against empirical data gathered with the help of an organization that has undergone a merger. Based on the purpose of the essay is a combination of methods applied in order to analyze the information from the survey.

Thesis discussion and conclusion is based on the survey responses collected from the specific organization's staff, apart from the management team. From the results it can be inferred that the study measured the different variables correctly. In contrast, this study could not conclude that there were any significant relationship between these variables, which is explained in the last section of the thesis.

Upplevelse av stress och lärande relaterat till KASAM och fysisk aktivitet: en enkätstudie till gymnasieelever2009Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Public health is important to many areas of society. It is important to have different goals to focus the work with health promotion in different sectors, one such area is the school. In the society of today there are a lot of public health issues like stress, overweight and physical inactivity. To experience well-being physical activity, sense of coherence (SOC) and the individual experience of stress have important functions. School is an important part of the student’s learning, development and socialisation. The aims of the study were numerous: how many of the upper secondary school students are physically active and if physical activity reduces the experience of stress. Other questions of the study were: if the experience of teaching about stress and physical activity relate to students SOC, physical activity and the experience of stress, and also illuminate the relation between SOC, physical activity and stress. A quantitative questionnaire study was performed among 187 students at three  upper secondary schools in the south of Sweden. The questionnaire was classified into four different categories; stress, physical activity, pedagogy and SOC. The result showed that the students´ SOC related to the students’ experience of stress and prevalence of different symptoms. The students’ physical activity did not relate to the students SOC and experience of stress. The physical activity education showed a trend to relate to increased physical activity and prevalence of stress education was related to increased stress. The socio-cultural perspective imprinted the study that shows that learning takes place not only in school, but also in other social contexts. The school should open up for physical activity and create a bigger interest in good health and SOC and thereby create opportunities for the  future life of the students.

To audit or not to audit: How is auditing being used in banks' credit rating processes?2010Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Credit rating systems are complex processes and involve mainly two parties; a company and a bank. The complexity of a relationship between a company and a bank lies in the fact that a company usually has access to more information about the company than the bank. Hence, an auditor acts as a third party who validates the information involved in credit rating processes. The purpose of this dissertation is to explore how auditing is being used in credit rating processes and to identify the role auditing has. In addition, this study recognizes the use of auditing in both Denmark and Sweden, with a goal to compare and explore the differences between the countries.

In order to collect secondary data, Danish and Swedish banks were interviewed. To be able to explore the rather newly discovered relationship between auditing and credit rating processes, this study was carried out with an exploratory research design. In addition, this study is based on assumptions stated in the Agency Theory, the Positive Accounting Theory and the Stakeholder Model. Because the intention was to use existing theories, a deductive research approach was suitable.

The empirical findings imply that auditing is being used in banks’ credit rating processes to validate the information and to reduce the risk. The trustworthiness of auditors and the relationship between a company and a bank influence banks’ perceptions regarding the creditworthiness of companies. The role of auditing is rather common in Denmark and Sweden, whereas the amount of accessible information is higher in Sweden than in Denmark. The pattern is that more information diminishes the risk and implies that the role of auditing is less important.

This study is limited to only taking the bank’s perceptions of auditing into consideration, leaving out other stakeholders. Moreover, the examination is restricted to Danish and Swedish banks. The findings are interesting for banks and small companies to consider, because they explain the importance of auditing other components such as customer relationship. As a conclusion, the findings would be appropriate for Swedish banks to review in order to evaluate possible consequences of the statutory audit.

    Abstract [en]

The auditors maintain an essential roll as an independent authority for control of financial information governed by rules and regulations. In the modern society it’s crucial for the companies to present correct information within annual reports for the stakeholders. It’s a complex task for the auditors to make an adequate judgment of the companies ongoing business if an audit modified opinion should be issued which may not lead to any misjudgements. As the results of such a misjudgement will have huge consequences for both client and auditor. Issuing a going concern modified audit opinion may result in large loss of revenues for the auditors as well as negative information to the stakeholders of the company which may lead to serious consequences for the business of the company. As example on measures taken by the company is to replace their auditors or that the company files for bankruptcy, which means that the self-fulfilling prophecy is accomplished. The purpose of this paper is to show if it exists a correlation between the losses of auditors revenues when issuing a first going concern modified audit opinion by Swedish auditors. In addition this paper will prove if it exists a correlation between issuing a going concern modified audit opinion and the probability of bankruptcy for the revised company.

This paper applies a quantitative method to explain the correlations. This analysis is made by the selection of a test group of 169 companies which have received a first going concern modified audit opinion during the financial year of 2009. The test group has been compared by a control group of 169 companies which are financial distressed but have not received a going concern modified audit opinion. To prove whether if it exist any correlations statistical calculations is applied.

The results of this paper determine the existence of a correlation between issuing a first going concern modified audit opinion and audit switch. The longer the audit tenure has lasted the lesser is the probability that a going concern modified audit opinion to be issued. However this paper finds no evidence of any correlation between issuing of a going concern modified audit opinion and company bankruptcy which reject the existence of self-fulfilling prophecy.

    Abstract [sv]

2008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Titel: Skatteflyktslagen- tillämplig utifrån gällande rätt?

    Ämne: Filosofi kandidatuppsats i handelsrätt/skatterätt, 15 poäng, HA6035

    Författare: Kadir Ademovski

    Henrik Ekström

    Handledare: Bengt Åkesson

    Nyckelord: Skatteflyktslagen

The effect of periodontal therapy on intra-oral halitosis: a case series2016In: Journal of Clinical Periodontology, ISSN 0303-6979, E-ISSN 1600-051X, Vol. 43, no 5, 445-452 p.Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of non-surgical periodontal therapy on intra-oral halitosis 3months after therapy. Material and methods: Sixty-eight adults with intra-oral halitosis were included in a case series. Intra-oral halitosis was evaluated at baseline, and at 3months after treatment using the organoleptic scores (OLS), Halimeter (R), and a gas chromatograph. Results: Significant reductions for OLS (p<0.01), total sum of volatile sulphur compounds (T-VSC) (p<0.01) and methyl mercaptan (MM) (p<0.05) values were found after treatment. Hydrogen sulphide (H2S) levels were not significantly reduced. The numbers of probing pockets 4mm, 5mm and 6mm were significantly reduced as a result of therapy (p<0.001). Bleeding on probing (BOP) and plaque indices were also significantly reduced (p<0.001). For the 34 individuals with successful periodontal treatment (BOP<20% and a 50% reduction of total pocket depth) reductions in OLS (p<0.01) and T-VSC scores (p<0.01) were found. Eleven individuals were considered effectively treated for intra-oral halitosis presenting with a T-VSC value <160ppb, a H2S value <112ppb and a MM value <26ppb. Conclusion: Non-surgical periodontal therapy resulted in reduction of OLS, MM and T-VSC values 3months after therapy. Few individuals were considered as effectively treated for intra-oral halitosis.

Moral över lag: beslutsfattande dilemman2011Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this paper has been to reach a greater understanding in how moral inflicts social workers way of handling everyday situations. In what way, if in any way, moral comes to play a part in the making of decisions. In order to reach this understanding we have interviewed two different groups of social workers which we also later on came to compare . One of the groups contained six interviewees and the other group contained five interviewees. Both of these groups were in the ages between 27 – 52.To shed some light over this phenomenon did we use two theoretical perspectives, first Kant’s morale theory and second, consequentialistic utilitarism theory.

As a result from the interviews we’ve made, we came to an understanding that the meaning of morale and in what way it can be applied in the everyday work differs between these two professional groups. One of the greater conclusions we came to make, is that one key role is the differences between both work environments, both on a social and a structural level.

Ekonomistudenters uppfattningar om jämförbarhet: en studie som tål att jämföras2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Integrationsprocessen och invandrare: Intervjuundersökning med sex invandrarkvinnor2009Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

The new generation of auditors meeting praxis: dual learning's role in audit students' professional development2017In: Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research, ISSN 0031-3831, E-ISSN 1470-1170Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper explores whether and in what way “dual learning” can develop understanding of the relationship between structure/judgement and explores audit student’s perceptions of the audit profession. Work Integrated Learning (WIL) module, serving as a tool of enabling dual learning, represents the context for this exploration. The study is based on a focus group and individual interviews conducted with students performing their WIL. Our data and its analysis indicates that when in a WIL context, students develop awareness of the use of standards and checklists on the one hand and the importance of discretional judgement on the other. Based on these results, we theorise as to how dual learning manifests itself in students’ experiences and understanding of the relationship between structure and judgement.

A single-center randomized controlled clinical trial on the adjunct treatment of intra-bony defects with autogenous bone or a xenograft: results after 12 months2012In: Journal of Clinical Periodontology, ISSN 0303-6979, E-ISSN 1600-051X, Vol. 39, no 7, 666-673 p.Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Background Limited evidence exists on the efficacy of regenerative treatment of peri-implantitis Materials and methods Subjects receiving antibiotics and surgical debridement were randomly assigned to placement of autogenous bone (AB) or bovine derived xenograft (BDX) with placement of a collagen membrane. The primary outcome was: evidence of radiographic bone fill and the secondary outcomes included reductions of probing depth (PD) bleeding on probing (BOP) and suppuration. Results 22 subjects were included in the AB and 23 subjects in the BDX group. Statistical analysis failed to demonstrate differences for 38/39 variables assessed at baseline. At 12 months, significant better results were obtained in the BDX group for bone levels (p < 0.001), BOP (p = 0.004), PI (p = 0.003), and suppuration (p < 0.01). When adjusting for number of implants treated per subject, a successful treatment outcome PD≤ 5.0 mm, no pus, no bone loss and BOP at 1/4 sites the likelihood of defect fill was higher in the BDX group (LR: 3.2, 95 % CI: 1.0 to 10.6, p < 0.05). Conclusions Bovine xenograft provided more radiographic bone fill than autogenous bone. The success for both surgical regenerative procedures was limited. Decreases in PD, BOP, and suppuration were observed.
