Informationskompetens i högskolan: en metod för att analysera kursplaner2016In: Lärarlärdom 2016: Högskolan Kristianstad / [ed] Claes Dahlqvist & Stefan Larsson, Högskolan Kristianstad: Kristianstad University Press , 2016Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

    Introduktion

Informationskompetens i högskolans kursplaner: en kvalitativ textanalys2015Other (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this Master thesis is to deepen understanding of how the concept of information literacy is used within Swedish higher education. The empirical material consists of course syllabi from three different programmes offered at Kristianstad University, Sweden. These are analysed from a sociocultural perspective through qualitative content analysis. Using a data-driven coding frame with different categories, the method helps to define the level of clarity with which information literacy is expressed in the texts. The results of the study reveal that information literacy is seldom explicitly expressed in course syllabi. Information literacy is usually only implied or a potential connection can be discerned. It is concluded that the invisibility of information literacy as such may render it unimportant to students. It is suggested that in a sociocultural perspective, the teaching of information literacy ought to be embedded in the curricula. This requires cooperation between teachers and librarians, something which historically has been difficult to achieve. The analysis also shows that there are connections to information literacy in the syllabi in areas that are highly valued by both professions. These include creative thinking, scientific working processes and the use of information- and communication technology. By shedding light on these similarities, this thesis suggests ways of bringing the two professions closer together.

Assessment of search strategies in literature-review-based candidate theses within a nursing program2020In: Advances in Medical Education and Practice, ISSN 1179-7258, E-ISSN 1179-7258, Vol. 11, p. 71-77Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Background: The majority of candidate theses in baccalaureate nursing programs inSweden are written as literature studies. Being able to carry out a systematic and structuredliterature search is an essential part of thesis-related work.Aim: The aim of the current study was to investigate changes in nursing students’ searchstrategies in candidate theses.

Methods: A retrospective, quantitative study design was obtained. Librarians (n = 2) andteachers (n = 4) randomly examined selected candidate theses (every third thesis, n = 89)from the years 2012, 2014, and 2016.

Results: The result showed a significant improvement over the years (from 2012 and 2014to 2016) regarding the use of a sufficient number of synonyms, matching search terms to therespective database, use of the Boolean operator OR, and the use of subject headings and freetext searches. Use of the title/abstract search largely disappeared. There was a significantchange in the types of searches being done. The searches have become more structured inlater years as the use of block searches increased significantly; in other words, moresystematic and relevant searches have been done in recent years.

Conclusion: The result of this study shows that the quality of the students’ search strategiesimproved significantly during the studied years. It is recommended that search documents areused in both formative and summative assessments to evaluate students’ search strategies.Educational development in the form of enhanced collaboration between librarians andteachers in nursing programs is recommended because it might help to develop studentsearch strategies in literature-based candidate theses.

Using the institutional repository as a platform for quality assessment of and open access to artistic works: A Project at the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts, University of Gothenburg, Sweden2012Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

In the university world, the financial allocations for research are increasingly dependent on bibliometric indicators of faculty publications registered in databases and repositories. Following a decision by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gothenburg, the allocation of faculty research resources, should from the budget year 2012 partly be based on bibliometric indicators and partly on external funds. Each faculty has had to develop and formulate their bibliometric indicators in a way that best reflects their specific subject field and their publishing culture. The Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts has, beside traditional publications, also decided to focus on the unique excellence that characterizes its field, i.e. artistic works. We will show how it was made possible to use a bibliometric indicator also in assessing art works and how a workflow using the institutional repository as a platform was tried out in practice.

Art as academic output: quality assessment and open access publishing of artistic works at the University of Gothenburg2015In: Art Libraries Journal, ISSN 0307-4722, Vol. 40, no 4, p. 26-32Article in journal (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

How is artistic research and practice output within academia to be quality assessed and made available open access on the internet? Is it possible to integrate artistic research within a framework of bibliometrics, to allocate research funding at an institution? At the University of Gothenburg, a model for addressing these questions has been implemented at the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts, through close collaboration between faculty representatives and the University library. The institutional repository of the university now holds a growing collection of openly available output from artistic research and practice.
