Facebook - a crime preventive tool? : The police departments crime preventive work by using Facebook (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Internet use increases and so does the notifications that the of crime have been "online". The purpose of this paper is to examine how the police crime prevention looks on Facebook. The essay shows through a mailing of questionnaires on what police have to practice when it comes to Facebook. Previous research suggests that crime has become increasingly "online". Results collected suggest that it is difficult to prevent crime via Facebook today. Respondents considered primarily to prevent crimes meant to publish general information, which they also considered to be the most effective way. The police shows that they are available to the public, which leads to a higher sense of security and a better trust from the society. Through Facebook you can create a kind of communication between the police and the public. Partly, to ensure that no crime is committed but also to create a better contact with the public.
