Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Akutmottagningen är en enhet som erbjuder behandling och vård till akut sjuka eller skadade patienter. De patienter med störst behov utav vård går först, vilket kan leda till att mindre akut sjuka patienter prioriteras ned i köordningen. Det kan i sin tur leda till långa väntetider. Syfte: Att beskriva patienters upplevelse av att vänta på akutmottagningen. Metod: Allmän litteraturstudie. Resultat: analysen genererade fem kategorier; Att känna sig lämnad, acceptans, missnöje, oro och ovisshet. Flertalet studier visade att information angående den uppskattade väntetiden kunde lugna patienterna. Utebliven information samt kontakt med sjukvårdspersonalen kunde ge oro. En lång väntetid hade en negativ effekt på patientens helhetsintryck utav sitt besök på akutmottagningen. Miljön och organisationen på akutmottagningen påverkade patienten till att känna misstro och stress. Dock beskrev patienter att de var nöjda med vården de erhöll på akutmottagningen och att de kände sig lyssnade på utav sjuksköterskan. Diskussion: Patienterna har behov av att erhålla information, att bli sedda samt få kontakt med personalen. Sjuksköterskan behöver besitta kunskaper i patientens upplevelser samt förmåga att bemöta patienten utifrån upplevelserna. Slutsats: De fem kategorierna kan, var för sig eller sammanlagt, påverka patientens upplevelse. Sjukvårdspersonalen måste försöka förstå patientens behov utav information, att bli sedd och kontakt, och därigenom försöka förbättra patientens upplevelse av att vänta.

Abstract [en]

Background: The Emergency department is units were urgently ill and wounded patients can receive treatment and care. The most urgent patients are those who will be treated first, leaving the non-urgent patients to wait. This system of priority can causes a prolonged waiting time. Purpose: to describe the patients’ experience of waiting in the Emergency department. Method: Literature review. Results: The analysis revealed five categories; to feel abounded, acceptance, dissatisfied, anxiety and uncertainty. A lot of studies showed that information concerning estimated waiting time could calm the patients. Absent information and contact with the staff could give anxiety. A pro-longed waiting time had a negative effect on the total experience. The environment and organization on the Emergency department, affected the patient to feel distrust and stress. However, there were patients who described that they were satisfied with the care they received. Discussion: The patients have needs of getting information, get noticed and get in contact with the staff. The nurse has to possess knowledge in the experiences of patients. Conclusion: The five categories can, alone or connected affect the patients’ experience. The staff at the Emergency department must try to understand the patients need for information and contact, and there through try to improve the patients’ experience.
