Bakgrund: Sjuksköterskor kommer i sitt arbete att möta svårt sjuka patienter och deras närstående. När någon är sjuk involveras hela familjen. Det är då viktigt att närstående får hjälp med att bearbeta sorgen och lidandet som uppstår och då spelar sjuksköterskan en viktig roll. Syftet: Syftet var att belysa hur närstående upplevde sjuksköterskans stöd i sin sorg och sitt lidande. Metod: Studien genomfördes som en allmän litteraturstudie och baserades på tolv vetenskapliga artiklar. Resultat: Resultatet visade att närstående till svårt sjuka patienter ansåg att rak och ärlig information från sjuksköterskan var av största vikt. Att känna sig sedd, respekterad, trygg och omhändertagen var andra viktiga faktorer som bidrog till att närstående upplevde att de fick tillfredställande stöd från sjuksköterskan. Diskussion: Det är viktigt att sjuksköterskan visar att hon bryr sig om närstående och vågar fråga hur de vill ha hjälp i sin sorg och sitt lidande. Sjuksköterskan bör också hjälpa närstående att upprätthålla ett visst hopp även i svåra situationer. Slutsats: Sjuksköterskor behöver mer utbildning och träning inom området för att kunna möta närståendes behov i samband med sorg och lidande.

Background: As a nurse you will meet critical ill patients and their relatives. When someone is ill, the whole family will be involved and it is important that the relatives get help with the grief process where the nurse plays a central role. Purpose: The purpose was to describe how relatives experienced the support from the nurse in their suffering and grief. Method: The study was conducted as a literature review and was based on twelve scientific papers. Result: The result showed that relatives to critical ill patients considered that straight and honest information from the nurse was very important. To feel noticed, respected, safe and cared for were other important factors that contributed to that the relatives experienced nurse’s support as satisfactory. Discussion: It is important that the nurse shows her concern about relatives and have the courage to ask in what way they want help in their grief and their suffering. The nurse should also help relatives to maintain some hope even in difficult situations. Conclusion: Nurses need more education in the area and they need experience to be able to face the relative’s needs in their suffering and grief.
