This is a qualitative study which purpose is to examine how the social workers in a medium-sized municipality in southern of Sweden are experiencing the different forms of housing that the municipality has for disposal. The purpose is also to examine opinions - belonging to the social workers’ representatives - concerning the value of motivational work in changing the lifestyles of assaulted and addicted women. The questions we have decided to examine are; how is the social services' work with assaulted and addicted women designed, how do the social workers experiences the situation on these forms of housing and what the social workers believe is promoting and inhibiting factors for motivation with assaulted and addicted women. The results in this study are built on qualitative semi-structured interviews with social workers where both sexes are represented. The responses that emerged during the interviews have been analyzed and then associated with theory and previous research.

According to the informants the attitudes and commitment shown by social workers are extremely important in order to motivate an assaulted and addicted woman. It has also emerged that there is no specific treatment for women who are abused or active substance abusers. In general the informants do not think that it is optimal to place women on one of the housings that the municipality has for disposal

Detta är en kvalitativ studie vars syfte är att undersöka hur socialsekreterare och behandlare, i en medelstor kommun i södra Sverige, upplever de olika boendeformerna som kommunen har att erbjuda. Avsikten är också att undersöka vad socialsekreterarna och behandlarna anser att motivationsarbetet med misshandlade missbrukande kvinnor har för betydelse i ett förändringsperspektiv. De frågeställningar som vi har valt att undersöka är; hur socialtjänstens arbete med misshandlade och missbrukade kvinnor i den undersökta kommunen är utformat, hur socialsekreterarna och behandlarna upplever situationen på dessa boenden samt vad socialsekreterarna och behandlarna anser är främjande och hämmande motivationsfaktorer till förändring med misshandlade missbrukande kvinnor. Resultaten i denna studie bygger på kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer med socialsekreterare och behandlare där båda könen är representerade. Svaren som framkom under intervjuerna har sedermera analyserats och sammankopplats med teori och tidigare forskning.

Enligt informanterna är bemötande och engagemang från socialsekreterare och behandlare oerhört betydelsefullt för att på bästa sätt kunna motivera en misshandlad och missbrukande kvinna. Det har också framkommit att det inte finns några specifika insatser till kvinnor som blir misshandlade och är aktiva i missbruk och att informanterna över lag inte tycker att det är optimalt att placera kvinnorna på lågtröskelboendet som kommunen tillhandahåller.
