Abstract [sv]

The use of tobacco is one of the largest health risks for human. Tobacco-users have an incrased risk of deterioration in their oral health. Individuals starts to use tobacco when they are young, often at the same time as they are going in an athletic sport club. It also seems that children are starting with tobacco habits when they are active in athletic sport clubs. The aim of this study was to examine and compare tobacco-habits of young men in and between three different athletic sport clubs. The study was performed among individuals that practiced three different athletic sports in the south part of Sweden. The three sports for the investigation were ice-hockey, football and handball. Tobacco habits of cigarettes and oral snuff were investigated. Totally 104 young men who were members in athletic sport clubs was included in this study. Of these individuals 45 were 16 years old and 59 were 19 years old at the time for the study. Most of the individuals did not use tobacco. In the ice-hockey and football club both cigarettes and snuff was used. Oral snuff was the only tobacco used by the respondens in the handball club. As tobacco use seems to be invitiated early in life, tobacco prevention is an essential matter for the athletic sport clubs.
