Background: The majority of nurses experience work related
stress, which can lead to a negative impact on patient care. The
stress can be handled by coping strategies. Aim: To illuminate
coping strategies among nurses experiencing work related
stress. Method: The study has been accomplished as a
literature study, with a systematic review of scientific articles.
Findings: Following coping strategies appeared: problem
solving, long-term strategies, passive strategies, leisure
strategies, social support and mental strategies. Conclusion:
Awareness of coping strategies for dealing with work related
stress, can lead to improvement in patient care.
