Being a secondary special school student : A qualitative study that highlights particular support in secondary special school (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The study is a qualitative study with a focus on special support within a secondary special school's individual and national programs. The purpose of the study is to elucidate the concept of special support among students with intellectual disabilities within the chosen upper secondary special school's individual and national programs. Based on the purpose, three central questions have been worked out which are What does the organization look like with regard to special support within the upper secondary special school? How is special support defined in the upper secondary special school? and What special educational perspectives appear in the secondary special school? Focus groups are the method of choice. The focus groups are conducted on two occasions where four teachers participated on each occasion. It is a structured selection that forms the basis for the focus group discussions. A qualitative content analysis has produced categories and subcategories in the study's results. The categories that appear are special support within the upper secondary special school, organization and individual and environment. In the special support category within the upper secondary special school there are three subcategories, which are called action programs, adapted study programs and I have my own student group. What is common to the categories is that they are linked to the concept of special support. The conclusions in the result are that the chosen upper secondary special school should find structures in the organization that open up discussions about special support. Furthermore, special support is defined as time-limited and as part of the action program where adapted study is the most common form of special support.
