Interaction takes place all the time : Preschool teachers’ view on interaction, children’s group size and quality of the preschool (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The aim of this study is to find out about preschool teachers’ view on children’s group size related to opportunities and obstacles for interaction between children and preschool teachers’, and how preschool teachers’ describe the size of the group may be related to quality of the preschool. To answer the aim of the study we have done qualitative semi-structed interviews with four preschool teachers’. The result of the study points out how the interaction can be different depending on the size of the group. Also, it appears that the quality is affected when the quantity of children is too high in the relation to the number of adults. The conclusion of this study is that the preschool teachers’ attitude plays a big part of how they choose to see opportunities or obstacles for interaction in various group sizes, and also how they choose to plan and organize the day. Which also becomes an affecting factor for the quality of the preschool.
