Abstract [sv]

Abstract in English:

BACKGROUND: CABG is a frequently used treatment at coronary heart disease in Swedish care. The goal with the surgery is to relieve symptoms in angina and myocardial infarction and to reduce mortality. AIM: The aim was to describe patients´ emotionall experiences during the first year after a CABG operation.METHOD: A general literature review based on qualitative scientific articles was performed. The result was based on seven scientific articles which were searched and retrieved in electronic databases, examined and analysed. RESULTS: The result described experiences from the hospital stay, positive and negative experiences during the recovery phase, and the experience of feeling as a burden.DISCUSSION: Information, support and encouragement are factors that can contribute to a better recovery for the patient, and give a more positive emotional experience after the operation. Problems can be seen when the relatives need to be carers at home. Interaction between patients were described as positive experiences. CONCLUSION: One conclusion to be drawn from the literature study is that the information given to patients is of great importance for the future operation and recovery. Support after surgery affects how the patient is doing and how the quality of life is affected after surgery.
