The aim of our study was to examine the oral health status using an oral assessment guide, ROAG, among elderly people in a block of service. Another aim was to evaluate the elderlys perception of there own oral health using a questionnaire. The study were undertaken at a ward in Kristianstad, with 39 caretakers. 21 caretakers participated in the study. The assessment of the oral health status was done on the same individuals (n=21) who answered the questions in the questionnaire. The questions were read by the authors. The caretakers answered the questions, and the answers were noted by the authors. Problems with teeth and saliva were most common. Using the assessment guide showed that three caretakers had no problem with their oral health status, while ten had four or more problems. The majority experienced a few problems with their oral health. Mouth dryness were the most common experienced problem.
