Analytic or holistic: a study of agreement between different grading models2018In: Practical Assessment, Research & Evaluation, ISSN 1531-7714, E-ISSN 1531-7714, Vol. 23, no 12Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Research on teachers’ grading has shown that there is great variability among teachers regarding both the process and product of grading, resulting in low comparability and issues of inequality when using grades for selection purposes. Despite this situation, not much is known about the merits or disadvantages of different models for grading. In this study, a methodology for comparing two models of grading in terms of (a) agreement between assessors (reliability) and (b) justifications for the grades assigned (validity) was used with a small sample of teachers (n = 24). The design is experimental, with teachers being randomly assigned to two conditions, where they graded the same student performance using either an analytic or a holistic approach. Grades have been compared in terms of agreement and rank correlation, and justifications have been analyzed with content analysis. Findings suggest that the analytic condition yields substantively higher agreement among assessors as compared to the holistic condition (66 versus 46 percent agreement; Cohen's kappa .60 versus .41), as well as higher rank correlation (Spearman's rho .97 versus .94), without any major differences in how the grades were justified. On the contrary, there was a relatively strong consensus among most raters in the sample.

Putting social sustainability into practice: close the gap an get lost in translation2018Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this paper is to understand why and how the concept of social sustainability evolves over time by generating a gap between the initially desired strategy and the daily practices at the city level. An extensive ethnographic study was conducted focusing on how social sustainability, as defined in the smart strategy of the city of Gothenburg, was first translated and then turned into practice. Through the lens of Actor Network Theory, findings reveal that the translation of a smart city strategy aimed at ensuring social sustainability depends on how the actors involved at various organisational levels interpret the concept of social sustainability and work to translate it into practice. Such translation takes different  directionsand may lead to a transformation of the concept itself which becomes foggier over time.

    Abstract [en]

Citizen satisfaction is a commonly used key performance indicator in the municipal sector and is an important part of the municipal place marketing. For the municipality it´s important to strive for citizen satisfaction as it contribute to the positive image of the municipality, at the same time it makes the municipal activities improve. As there is no uniform to measure and account for goal completion for citizen satisfaction, this is problematic from a comparison standpoint.

This study clarifies to what extent and how the municipality accounts for the goals set in regard to citizen satisfaction. The study also clarifies the differences in accounting for citizen satisfaction between the years 2014 and 2016 and if there is an increased popularity in accounting for citizen satisfaction.

A model has been developed to describe the different factors that contributes to citizen satisfaction, and that the municipalities should have in mind when they set their goals for citizen satisfaction as to increase the comparability and transparency of the key performance indicators of citizen satisfaction.

A content analysis have been performed that show the differences in the accounting for the goals set and the goal completion between different municipalities when it comes to accounting for citizen satisfaction.

Citizen satisfaction from a municipality perspective is relatively unexplored topic and more studies should be conducted. Future research should be based on interviews of the persons responsible for choosing which factors should be accounted for when it comes to citizen satisfaction.

    Abstract [en]

The largest auditing firms are characterized by strict hierarchy with a career ladder. Becoming a partner in a large auditing firm means reaching the highest position within the firm and becoming a part of the firm. Of the hundreds of economists who start their career in one of the large auditing firms, it's only about one of ten who become partners. The purpose of the study is to create a deeper understanding of who makes partner in a large auditing firm and what it takes to be chosen. The purpose is also to understand the role of cultural capital and habitus for an individual's ability to succeed in becoming a partner in a large auditing firm.

In the study, a qualitative approach has been used to gain a deeper understanding of who makes partner in a large auditing firm and to fulfill the purpose of the study. In the study eight semi-structured interviews were conducted, including three managers and five partners.

Both profession theory and organizational theory has been used mostly as a background description. The main focus of the study is Bourdieu's theory of cultural capital and habitus.

Finally, we found that the one who makes partner is the one who has the ability to run the company and generate revenue for the company. It is therefore important to be market-oriented and to like doing business.

När språket skymmer sikten: språkligt tillgängliga lärmiljöer för elever i språklig sårbarhet2018Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Effects of fungal-assisted algal harvesting through biopellet formation on pesticides in water2018In: Biodegradation, ISSN 0923-9820, E-ISSN 1572-9729Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Recent research has demonstrated the potential of using filamentous fungi to form pellets with microalgae (biopellets), in order to facilitate harvesting of microalgae from water following algae-based treatment of wastewater. In parallel, there is a need to develop techniques for removing organic pollutants such as pesticides and pharmaceuticals from wastewater. In experiments using the microalga Chlorella vulgaris, the filamentous fungus Aspergillus niger and biopellets composed of these microorganisms, this study investigated whether fungal-assisted algal harvesting can also remove pesticides from contaminated water. A mixture of 38 pesticides was tested and the concentrations of 17 of these were found to be reduced significantly in the biopellet treatment, compared with the control. After harvesting, the concentration of total pesticides in the algal treatment did not differ significantly from that in the control. However, in the fungal treatment and biopellet treatment, the concentration was significantly lower (59.6 ± 2.0 µg/L and 56.1 ± 2.8 µg/L, respectively) than in the control (66.6 ± 1.0 µg/L). Thus fungal-assisted algal harvesting through biopellet formation can also provide scope for removing organic pollutants from wastewater, with removal mainly being performed by the fungus.

Co-worker dialogue: a tool for health, personal development, and an empowering development culture in the workplace2018In: Society, health and vulnerability, E-ISSN 2002-1518, Vol. 9Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This study explores managers' perspective on how co-worker dialogue [CWD] can foster co-worker health and personal development, and contribute to an empowering development culture in the workplace. The interview study was performed at a hospital in Sweden. Seventeen hospital managers participated. The managers, both men and women, worked in different areas, and a majority had 30-40 co-workers. To uncover underlying pattern phenomena in the interview data, a six-step inductive qualitative thematic analysis was conducted. The findings present three themes, each highlighting different prerequisites for CWD to function as a resource for the co-workers and the workplace: (1) Utility; (2) Content, and (3) Implementation. The study provides suggestions for and problems of practical implications from the findings. To make the findings useful in other organizations, practical implications are presented and discussed in the light of workplace health promotion [WHP]. The CWD is not focusing on performance the way traditional PA does. The CWD is therefore an important complement to PA in annual co-worker meetings, to also highlight the co-worker perspective. If managers realize the value of working with both PA and CWD, opportunities for health, personal development, and an empowering development culture are created.

“En ytlig bransch”: en kvalitativ studie om upplevd hälsa och kroppsuppfattning bland träningsinstruktörer som arbetar på gym2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: A poor body perception can affect well being in a negative way and lead to detrimental results for both physical and mental health. Previous research about the phenomenon body perception is limited, especially work related, which makes it harder to understand how work can affect body perception. Purpose: To study body perception and the existence of well being amongst training instructors working at the gym. The objective is to increase the understanding of potential factors that may affect body perception and well being. Method: The study was implemented by using a qualitative methodology in the form of individual semi-structured interviews with a total of ten participants. Results: In summary the result shows that most of the participants experienced both negative and positive thoughts about their own body, although the positive thoughts were more common. A well conditioned body was considered a valuable asset in attracting clients since this was preferred. Some of the participants also competed in bodybuilding; however, this tended to have a negative impact on their well being. In a social setting there is a greater expectation about a women’s appearance than it is for men. The participants view on health can be summarized as a holistic approach where several components contributed. Conclusion: Due to the existence of limited research, there is a need for further studies about body perception from a qualitative and quantitative point of view to give a better picture of possible additional factors that affect it.

    Abstract [en]

The audit rules adopted by the EU strongly limit the auditors’ ability to provide non-audit services (NAS) to audit clients of public interest. Auditors in small and medium-sized audit firms are not affected by those rules. Therefore, it is interesting to study how they handle which services to provide and how it affects the auditor's role.

The purpose of the study is to investigate how auditors of small and medium-sized audit firms manage various advisory services and the related threat to independence in the role of consultant. Consequently, the study also seeks to gain an understanding of how the auditors perceive the issue of having to shift between the role as auditor and the increasingly imminent role as consultant. The study is based on qualitative research, in order to understand and interpret the auditor's experiences, which is why interviews were conducted with six auditors.

The main conclusions of the study are that the auditors have difficulty defining which services are audit-related and which are less audit-related. The auditor must provide advice to maintain the audit. Advisory services can therefore be regarded as an integral part of the auditor's services. The auditor is forced to shift between the roles of auditor and consultant, as a result of the clients’ high expectations for advisory services. This is in contradiction with the audit's other stakeholders’ expectations for the companies to be checked through an independent examination. However, the respondents still consider themselves to be auditors even in the performance of consulting services.

"Alltså de är snälla, men inte för snälla": om ADHD i skolan – två elevperspektiv2018Other (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

The theoretical framework bases mainly on Schütz (2002) lived experience theory

The phenomenology of the social world. Schütz focus on the everyday world matches the purpose of this study since school may course as an everyday world for the students. Schütz (2002) theory completes with thoughts of Bengtsson and Berntsson (2015), Asplund (2010) and von Wright (2000). The choice bases on their shared focus on phenomenology and relationships.

Based on the result, two things appear to be particularly important in the students’ narratives:

 The experience of belonging. To be a part of the social life with friends in the everyday life in school.

 The importance of trustworthy, caring and mutual relationships with teachers in school.

The main thing that seems to be of primary relevance for both Charlie and Kim were the quality of the teacher student relationship. A trustworthy relation may be as a key factor not only for students’ self-esteem but also for how they develop their learning identity.

The study implies that how students with ADHD experience their school day depends on the relationships with both teachers and peers in the regional world that consists the students’ everyday world. Inadequate relationships with teachers and peers seems, based on the results of this study, lead to lack of self-esteem. Self-esteem is a critical factor in the development of social both as educational learning. Teachers' ability to develop trustful relationships is therefore a key factor in how the learner develops his or her learning identity. A learning identity that not only has consequences for the student's schooling but also in the long run affects further developing as well as work and social life.

The aim of this study is to provide knowledge about how students with an ADHD diagnosis can experience their everyday life in school. The study is based on the assumption that teachers’ ability of developing professional pedagogical relationships are critical for how students experience themselves and their social- and pedagogical ability.

The main question of the study is:

 What appears to be particularly important in the students' narratives?

    - What, of the particularly important, seems to be of primary relevance for the student as an individual?

The empirical part of the study consists two narratives, one from Charlie and one from Kim. Kim and Charlie are two secondary school students both diagnosed with ADHD. According to Cousin (2009) a narrative inquiry is especially useful if the researcher wants to know how individuals "make sense of their lives through the selective stories they tell about noteworthy episodes" (Cousin, 2009, s. 93). By gathering and exploring narratives, the researcher gives the opportunity to get an insight in the complex ways that individuals act on bases of their experiences.

The student narratives were filmed in purpose to facilitate transcription. Before the researcher started to analyze the transcribed narratives, she had them sent to guardians for reading and approval.

    Abstract [en]

The new regulation that has been introduced requires approximately 1600 Swedish companies to produce a sustainability report of the financial year 2017 with their work surrounding questions like environment, social, personal, human rights as well as corruption. The purpose of this study is to examine and explain how the introduction of sustainability reporting according to the new regulations affect the company’s work with sustainability. To examine the potential differences, we performed a content analysis on the company’s annual reports and sustainability reports. The empirical evidence consists of the data collected from the content analysis of the company’s annual reports and sustainability reports. With the collected empirical evidence an analysis was completed on the differences through the examined years. Previous studies have shown that companies tend to leave out negative information about the company to project a more positive image. With the new regulation companies include negative aspects of their business.

Brand new knowledge: how knowledge-intensive startups use social media to build their corporate brand2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Building a corporate brand is as a crucial resource for the survival of companies. Social media as a tool for branding practices has been emphasized in research about startups. In such research, less focus is on certain groups of startups, such as Knowledge-intensive startups (KI Startups). This is peculiar as such startups differ in societal contributions and how they are constituted. Thus, as social media branding practices might enhance the survival rate, it is important to extend this research about KI startups.

The purpose of this thesis is to understand how and why KI startups in Sweden use social media to build their corporate brands in regards of four different branding elements.

The thesis has an exploratory and interpretivist philosophy with an abductive approach. A qualitative method was chosen to collect the empirical data. Firstly, a pilot study which contained a questionnaire was sent to a sample of KI startups to attain an initial understanding of the field. Secondly, semi-structured interviews with six KI startups were conducted for a main study.

The findings indicate that the interviewed KI startups use social media to build brand awareness, influence and engage customers, attract new employees, and to build reputation. The findings also indicate that some KI startups use social media to attain a credible and knowledgeable brand perception.

Our findings may help other KI startups when choosing a social media channel, and what content to post in the brand building process. Suggestions for further research are a similar, but more extensive study in Sweden, or a study in a country that is different to Sweden.

Assessing sensory properties of the early modern medicine “Elixir amarum Hiaernei”2018Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    Introduction

We are reworking the early modern medicine with focus on products, today known as Swedish Bitters or similar names, and historically as “Elixir amarum Hiaernei”. The history of the recipe dates back at least to mid-18th century. It was probably one of the Hiaerne-brothers, Ulrik Leonhard (1712-1758) or Christian Henric (1709-1794), who invented this universal medication. From a number of Linnaeus sources from later 18th century it is well known that odor, flavor and taste were used to assess pharmacological potential of medicinal herbals.

The purpose of this study was to assess ingredients of “Elixir amarum Hiaernei” from a sensory perspective.

    Methods

The ingredients in “Elixir amarum Hiaernei” according to the 18th century recipes: agarikon, aloe, gentian, myrrh, rhubarb, saffron, Theriac Andromachalis, zedoary together with alcohol and sugar.

These ingredients were assessed by a trained sensory panel using a slightly modified version of the Flavor Profile Method®. Each ingredient was evaluated with respect to odor, taste and flavor.

    Results

All ingredients were intense in taste, flavor and odor. The ingredients could be described due to its sensory characteristics, in which they differed largely. However, they had in common that they were high in bitterness.

    Discussion

The ingredients of this historic medication had intense tastes, flavors and odors in line with historical sources. It points for example out that the senses, especially olfaction, was of high importance for the apothecary during the 18th century. In order to find the right blend of ingredients the sensory profiles were of highest importance, both ingredients and blended medication were valuated due to this by physicians as well as patients. Sensory evaluation was also of major importance in the quality assessment of medical herbals by the early modern apothecary.

Sensory profiles of the medical ingredients will be presented at the Eurosense symposium.

Is there a best woodland strawberry (Fragaria vesca)?: a consumer survey of preferred sensory properties and cultivation characteristics of woodland strawberries2018Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    Introduction

Resistant varieties are important to combat agricultural pathogens and pests in strawberry and other crops. Consequently, plant breeders aim to develop crop varieties with higher resistance in order to increase sustainability. However, plant resistance may affect quality, e.g. sensory properties of the fruits, and thereby consumer acceptance. The development of new varieties may also affect consumer attitudes.

The purpose of this study was to investigate consumers’ preferences and attitudes regarding woodland strawberry.

    Methods

Consumer data from a total number of 176 (78% women and 22% men, >18 years) Swedish respondents were collected via a web based survey during two weeks in September 2017. Data were processed using descriptive and analytical statistics.

    Results

The most preferred fruits have a significant flavor of woodland strawberry and are high in sweetness. Further, “naturalness” and “free from pesticides” were of importance to the respondents. Women were significantly more concerned of “naturalness”, especially the older women. The younger claimed that “organic production” was more important.

The older consumers were significantly more interested in “healthiness” than the younger, they also found it significantly more important than the younger that strawberries could resist grey mould and pest insects.

All the respondents preferred to eat strawberries fresh.

    Discussion

In line with earlier studies, taste and flavor are the most preferred properties for consumers. In woodland strawberry, the compound methyl anthranilate is responsible for the characteristic flavor of the fruit, together with sweetness from saccharides. However, also in accordance with earlier studies, factors such as naturalness, healthiness and organic production are of greatest importance to the consumer. Though it was also apparent that different consumer groups prioritized different factors. However, common for all respondents was a strong preference to eat strawberries fresh!

Influence of color, shape and damages on consumer preferences and perceived sensory attributes on sub-optimal apples2018Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Sustainable food production and consumption are key elements today. About one third of food produced for human consumption is wasted. Consumers are responsible for the largest amount of food waste throughout the supply chain; part of this is indirect by e.g. discarding food products already in the store. The unwillingness to purchase and consume sub-optimal food products is thought to be an important cause of food waste; however, the reasons behind it are still insufficiently studied. Our research addresses the question of how combinations of color, shape and damage of apples influence consumer preferences and perceived sensory attributes.

Based on a cubic design of visual appearance (color (red-to-green); shape (normal-to-odd); damage (none-to-damage) with a total of eight combinations ranging from optimal to suboptimal in all three dimensions, a total of 130 participants (68% women and 32% men), participated in a laboratory study where an image for each apple type from the design was presented in a blind tasting session (peeled and sliced apples). Sensory perception was evaluated by thirteen flavor and texture attributes on a 7-point scale. Liking was evaluated on a 7-point hedonic scale.

The results showed a significant difference between the optimal apple and apples with shape and damage imperfections. Further, the optimal apple was perceived sweeter, crispier and less bitter than all other apples. The optimal apple had higher liking score, significantly different from the apples which all had a sub-optimal shape. This means that an odd shape had a negative effect on liking. A linear regression analysis showed that odd shaped apples were perceived as mainly earthy and bitter. Hence, visual sub-optimality, even presented to consumers in images, have an effect on how an apple is perceived and liked where an odd shape has larger negative impact than color and damage.

Titerbestämning av anti-A och anti-B i trombocytenheter för transfusion över ABO gränsen: utvärdering av rutinanalys och utveckling av en screeningmetod2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Platelets are suspended in plasma containing antibodies to the blood group antigen missing on the erythrocytes. To minimize the risk of hemolytic reaction, the titrers of anti-A and anti-B are determined. The gel test is used to detect antibody-and antigen responses and is based on agglutinations in gel. The purpose was to investigate the titers of anti-A and/or anti-B in platelets. A routine analysis was evaluated and a screening method was implemented. In the study, units of blood group O and A were analyzed. They were checked against anti-A and anti-B for both IgG and IgM antibodies. A screening method was developed to screen the O-units and a limit of 1:100 and 1:250 was used. The results showed great difference in titers between O and A units. The titers differ significantly depending on whether the titers are determined in plasma or from the finished (diluted) unit. A screening method at 1:100 showed that 86 % of the units was rated as high titer while a screening method of 1:250 showed that this was reduced to 31 %. Gel technology is a sensitive method and is dependent on competent staff when reading the agglutinations. Some studies show similar results, but the proportion of high titer units, methods and critical titers varies. It proves the difficulty in determining a critical titer and predicting risks for the patient. Other factors are also believed to influence the risks. Implementation of a 1:250 screening method is believed to increase the number of units that can be transfused over the ABO barrier.

Vårdnadshavares uppfattningar kring vistelsetidens betydelse för barns omsorg, fostran och lärande2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Sjuk mat?: styrande faktorer och utmaningar för sjukhusmåltidens kvalitet ur kostchefers perspektiv2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Equality between women and men at senior positions is a well-discussed topic. Previously research on the subject has been done in the audit industry, but not in the same extent in the accounting industry. The purpose of the essay is to investigate and compare women´s and men´s career opportunities in the accounting industry. This study adopts deductive reasoning and employs a quantitative analysis. To satisfy the purpose, data has been collected through a survey sent to women and men at accounting industries. An interview has also been conducted to get background information about the accounting industry. The study is based on the theory; Social Role Theory. The theoretical framework presents the following factors that can affect woman’s and men´s career opportunities; risk, network, family and homosocialization/Queen Bee Syndrome. The factors have led to eight hypotheses and been the basis for the questions in the survey. The hypotheses were tested in a regression analysis where career opportunities represented the dependent variable. The result showed that four of the eight hypotheses had a significant relationship. Our essay showed that network and Queen Bee Syndrome had a significant relationship with career opportunities, while risk and network become significant in men´s tests. The study has thus concluded that there are some differences between the career opportunities of women and men, but not in the same extent in the accounting industry as the former research.

"Skolan är en nyckelfaktor för att få barn att röra sig mer": en kvalitativ studie om högstadielärares attityder till fysisk aktivitet2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

More interventions with physical activity and movement during school time, have positive effects on the students health and performance in class, and reduces the time spent on sedentary activities. Physical activity is a health-promoting activity which decreases the risk of becoming ill in common public diseases and creates good opportunities for the public health. Sedentary lifestyle increases in the society and is a risk factor for developing chronic diseases and further to early death. physically active decreases, regarding both everyday- and intentional activities. The school is a suitable arena for increasing the physical activity, since it contains a wide target group and can offer equal conditions. The aim was to study secondary teachers attitudes to physical activity and movements during the school time for students in age 13-16, as a health-promoting intervention for a good public health. The empirical data was collected through individual interviews and a final focus group interview with the same participants. Further an inductive qualitative content analysis was conducted. The result showed that the participants were aware of the positive effects of physical activity on the students health, but the individual teacher wasn't responsible to implement more physical activity at school time. physical activity was connected to pulse-raising activities, which should be scheduled or should take place outside the lessons, suggested during the breaks and be arranged by a leisure teacher. The responsibility for the students to be less sedentary and more physically active during the school day, lays on other actors than the teachers themselves. The teachers expressed a need to gain deeper understanding and increased knowledge of physical activity and how they could continue with implementation of it to improve the conditions for the students. Increased implementation of physical activity in school with the teachers as a resource, may be of great importance to further public health interventions and individuals health. The result from the study can increase awareness of health promoting interventions, which could be applied in schools for a better public health.

    Abstract [en]

The aim of the present study was to examine transitions between year three and four, for children in linguistic vulnerability. Further, it aims to find knowledge about how to remove barriers so that problems don´t occur. The background of the study is our experience of the language-problems children meet when they start year four. The study was conducted with a both quantitative- and qualitative method. A questionnaire was distributed to parents and interviews have been carried out with pupils, teachers, special education teachers and headmasters. The respondents were chosen primarily from two different schools, with exception of one interview, which was held at a third school. The theoretical framework consists of sociocultural-, relational- and system theoretical perspectives and the analysis is performed through a content analysis. The results of the study indicate and confirm that linguistic problems at transitions are universal and that linguistic demands between year three and four can increase drastically. The cooperation and communication between involved professionals appear to most important to reduce these problems. Early interventions and proactive actions seem to be crucial. The role of the special education teacher can be to take the responsibility for the linguistic adaptability at transitions.

Modelling of time-varying HRV using locally stationary processes2017In: Abstract book: at EMBEC'17 & NBC'17, 2017, p. 44-Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Estimates of heart rate variability (HRV), and particularly parameters related to high frequency HRV (HF-HRV), are in-creasingly used as a proxy of cardiac parasympathetic nervous system regulation. Reduced HF-HRV is related to attention deficits, depression, various anxiety disorders, long-term work related stress or burnout, and cardiovascular diseases [1,2]. In this work, a stochastic model, known as

Locally Stationary Processes, [3], is applied to HRV data sequences from 47 test participants. The model parameters are estimated with a novel inference method and regression using a number of available covariates is used to investigate their correlation with the stochastic model parameters.

Shedding light on the controller profession: controllers’ value-creation in Swedish organizations2018Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Problematization: Financial departments have during the recent years developed due to environmental changes, and so has the controller profession. Controllers are working hard in the shadow of the CFO, together with an unclear definition over their tasks. By shedding light on the controller can their value-creation for the organization be defined.

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to examine developments of the controller profession from a Swedish organizational context. Furthermore, this thesis aims to investigate if there is an expansion of the controller professions role, within organizations, that affecting their ability to create value.

Methodology: The research has been conducted with a qualitative approach. In this study was 8 interviews performed with controllers in Swedish organizations. This research further examines the controller profession from a general context, in other words, without no specific industry orientation.

Findings /conclusions: The findings of this study argue for that there still exist an indistinct definition over the controller profession, thus developments within their role can be confirmed. The traditional view of controllers’ work should therefore be prolonged. Controllers are still just as accountable for financial assignment, the role has however, developed to become involved in most of parts organizations’ businesses and adapted an advisory role. The advancements have made the controller role to a central position with great ability to create value within an organization, yet, to what extend depends on various factors and aspects.

Heteronormativa ideologier: i det motsägelsefulla gränslandet En studie om femininitet(er) och maskulinitet(er)2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The aim of the study has been to examine women's participation in the reproduction of the system of heteronormative expectations of femininity and masculinity through narrative method, analyze books within the erotic women’s literature, as well as interviews with females. The study's focus was on the presentation and representations of the femininity(s) and masculinity(s). Through the questions

, How represents heteronormative femininity(s) and masculinity(s) in the erotic women´s litterateur? How portray women, their views on femininity(s) and masculinity(s)? The study were linked with the radical feminist theory regarding the male patriarchate's role as a hegemony in society, as well as one of queer theory's definitions of the gender and heteronormativity. The study also included elements of feminist research on popular culture. On the basis of my purpose and the research question I have come to the conclusion that women are involved in the reproduction of the system of heteronormative expectations of femininity and masculinity. But the study also shows a shifting duality of " ideal woman" and "ideal man".

    Abstract [en]

Mental illness is increasing among high school girls. At the same time the use of social media is increasing which is considered to be a major part of Western society. Increased body weight is considered to be associated with dissatisfaction whit the appearance. A dissatisfaction whit body perception can lead to problems such as depression, anorexia nervosa, self-injury and drug abuse. Never before has it been considered as difficult as it is today to fit into the today's society regarding apperance and it has been a negative trend over recent years. Through increased self-confidence and physical activity can body perception be improved. The purpose of the study was to investigate the thoughts of high school girls regarding how body perception, body ideals and living habits affect their health. Through semistructured interviews of six high school girls the study's empirical content was obtained from which further a inductive qualitative concentanylsis was conducted. The results of the study showed that the thoughts differ and aspects which affect the health most are considered to be the circle of friends and social media. Furthermore, the result showed that the individuals need to find factors in life to create and maintain good health, these factors differ from each individual. In addition to this, the result showed that physical activity, in excessive amounts, did contribute to a better health. From a public-health perspective is it important to increase the health of the population and prevent mental illness, especially among the young people who are the future of Sweden. Further studies on the subject can lead to more and better methods and strategies to prevent mental illness among high school girls.

Inbreeding decreases upwind pheromone: mediated male flight and frequency in female calling behavior in a lab culture of the pyraloid moth Plodia interpunctella2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Semiochemicals are chemicals used to communicate. Animals tend to use these e.g. to locate food sources or to find a suitable mate. In this study, the sex pheromone of the Indian meal moth, Plodia interpunctella, was analysed. Since this is an economically important species, it is mass-reared in labs and science centers worldwide for experimental purposes. A culture of these moths was brought into the lab at Lund University for studies and has after that served as a model species demonstrating up-wind pheromone-mediated male flight in different courses held by the university. As years went by, the culture got less successful in up-wind flights, most probably because of inbreeding and bottleneck effects, and therefore, a new culture was taken in. This study focuses on using various experiments to see if there was a behavioral and/or physiological difference between the two cultures. Results show a significant difference in behavioral traits (frequency of calling behavior in females and in male up-wind flights) but not in physiological traits (female pheromone production or male antennal response). This study discusses some effects of mass-reared lab cultures.
